About
Hi there 👋 Welcome to Motion Prep!
You know, one of the most unforgettable moments in my teaching journey didn't happen in a classroom or an office—it happened over a cup of coffee with a stressed-out friend. Back in 2014, while finishing school at Carleton College, a peer approached me, overwhelmed by the looming GRE. "Peter," they said, "I can’t crack this. I think I’ll miss this application cycle." We spent hours turning complex concepts into relatable, even fun, discussions. We ended up living in the same house over the summer. He’d bother me every once in a while by popping out of a study session to affirm: “I am a beacon of logic and reason.” We’d talk about the test, sharing strategies, insights, and words of encouragement. When he aced the test, it made me realize that learning doesn't have to be a monotonous, lonely grind—it can be a lively process filled with laughs and animated conversations.
I wasn't always a test prep consultant with over a decade of experience. Sure, I've written exams, questions, and curriculum for the ACT, SAT, CLT, and over 40 different state exams. And yes, I served as Director of Assessment for Mastery Prep, a national test prep company dedicated to closing the achievement gap in education. But titles and numbers only tell part of the story.
The real story is about the students who've sat across from me, faces scrunched until a spark of understanding hits. It comes from my educational background, when I didn’t have classes or tutoring to get ready for the SAT. I wasn’t confident. In fact, I had low expectations. It took practice, and seeing the hard work pay off to believe I could achieve academically. To me, that’s what test prep is all about — transforming "I can't" into "I just did."
Motion Prep started as a small project to help friends, but it grew into a philosophy—a belief that education can be dynamic, interactive, and, dare I say, enjoyable. Based here in the Greater Boston Area, I've had the privilege of working with students from all walks of life, each bringing their unique challenges and talents to the table.
So, what makes Motion Prep different? Well, we kick things off with a diagnostic test—not to box you into a score but to get YOUR opinions on the test. Then, we craft a personalized learning plan that's as unique as you are. Lessons aren't lectures; they're conversations. We dive into small exercises and mini-games, almost like segments of a game show or podcast. Why? Because engaging with content across multiple contexts doesn't just prepare you for a test—it prepares you for life.
And the results speak for themselves. My students consistently see 6 to 10-point increases on the ACT and 150 to 250 points on the SAT. But more than that, they walk away with confidence and a genuine passion for learning.
Here's the thing—standardized tests are just one piece of the puzzle. You don’t want to spend forever getting ready for it. You’d probably like to spend as little time as possible, actually. It’s my goal not only to help students reach their target score, but to do so efficiently. I believe that every student has the potential to excel when given the right tools and guidance. There is no one-size-fits-all here, no mythical perfect student. There's just you, and this one test that seems a lot harder now than it will be on the day of the exam. I promise you that.
I offer SAT and ACT test prep tutoring services throughout the Greater Boston area—in places like Newton, Waltham, Needham, Cambridge, Somerville, and beyond. Not in the neighborhood? No problem! We can connect virtually via Zoom or Google Meet.
